Full Story
After her air was cut off, Lara is floating in the ocean. Despite her appearance, she is not unconscious. When two divers approach her, she goes on pretending, trying to figure out what they want from her. When she realises that they want the item she has found, she takes the knife of one of the divers and struggles with them. She then takes one of the men's diving masks and sets off to get back to the boat. After struggling with sharks, she is shocked to find her yacht at the bottom of the ocean.
Assuming Compton was killed when the ship was sunk, Lara thinks back to a time when Compton saved the lives of her and her family. When Lord Croft was in London for a business meeting, Lara and his wife Andrea accompanying him, they were attacked by Irish terrorists. Compton intervened and fought them off. This was the first time Lara realized that Compton was not only their driver, but their bodyguard, and she also learned that her father and Compton fought together in the Falklands War.
Another flashback lets Lara think back to a time when Compton, whom she got to regard as a guardian angel, wasn't there for the family. The tragic plane crash that killed her parents and her fiancée. Someone else was piloting the plane that day.
When Lara emerges on the surface, she is surprised and relieved to find that Compton did not die when the yacht explored, but is picking her up with a helicopter. They travel to Athens, where Lara expects to pick up the trail. She reveals to Compton that she has found a Calling Card in the wreck of the Spanish Galleon, belonging to Chase Carver, a man Lara has a personal history with. Compton is not shy to express how much he despised Carver.
