A CD-Rom (short for Compact Disc Read Only Memory) is a memory medium used for - among other things - distribution of video games. It is the predecessor format of DVD-Rom and BD-Rom, which have become predominant in recent years.

Technically, many discs containing games are not truly in a CD-Rom format (like the discs used by the original PlayStation) for copyright protection reasons and compatibility with CD players and CD-Rom drives is somewhat shaky: e.g. CDs in the PlayStation format can not be simply copied with a CD writer; this is also true for many PC games.
