In the 2013 reboot Steph is the latest victim of the Scavenger in the first level Scavenger Den. She was a colleague of Lara's on board the Endurance before she was murdered and strung up in a strange ritual.

When later on in the game Lara tells the other survivors of Steph's death, though, they are shocked, so it is reasonable to assume that she was a respected and well liked member of the crew.
