Today, 2 March 2018, the '''[[Tomb Raider (2018)|Tomb Raider Reboot Movie]]''' was screened in a pre-premier event in the Astor cinema in Berlin. [[Square Enix]] Germany has kindly invited web masters participating in the [[Official Fansite Program]] to attend and we were glad to take the opportunity. The movie was screened in the German dubbed version. ''This article will contain '''no spoilers''''' as we want others to enjoy the film like we did when seeing it for the first time. The official release date of Tomb Raider is 16 March.

Members of the community who [[Cosplay|dresses up as Lara]] were also invited to meet with [[Alicia Vikander]], the star of the new movie, and chat with her for a few minutes.

Without going into too much details as I want to steer clear of spoilers as much as I can, I can say that the reboot movie is definitively worth watching. I have to say, though, that I personally have not been that much a fan of the [[Angelina Jolie]] movies; not because of Angelina, who did a fine job, but because for me they were missing a lot of the Tomb Raider feeling. Also, it might seem a bit unfair to compare the old films to the reboot. So much time has passed and the film industry has learned a lot about how to do a video game adaptation. And this time around there is definitely more Tomb Raider feeling: dark caves, puzzles to be solved, mysteries to uncover. Also, there are some plot twists that may be able to surprise the first time viewer. I am not going to bore you with a recap of the movie's story, there has been a lot of talk about that already and you can also find a short summary from previous press releases in the [[Tomb Raider (2018)]] article.

The authors have tried to stay close to the [[Tomb Raider (2013)|first reboot game ]] and have thrown in some elements from [[Rise of the Tomb Raider]] as well, but have diverged quite significantly in the background story of [[Lara Croft (Reboot Movie)|Lara]] and [[Richard Croft (Reboot Movie)|her family]]. This is in itself not too bad, as it gives a fresh new view on our favourite heroine. The whole of the first part of the movie spanning London and Hong Kong are quite fun to watch if you ignore the obvious daddy issues Lara seems to have developed.

The pace of the film picks up considerably when Lara reaches [[Yamatai]], though, and this might be good for the action - after all this movie wants to be an action adventure. But it also means that there are a lot of missed opportunities to go into more detail about the mysteries of the island and the motivation of the characters and interaction between them, which I personally would have very much liked to have seen more of. There are a lot of good actors in this film but they do get a bit overrun by the action. But then again, as I already said, it is supposed to be an action movie, so others might find all the exposition in the first part is too much and much prefer the second part. On the whole the film is very well made and if you are a fan of Lara Croft you will watch it regardless of what I say, won't you? ;-)

For all of you who know Lara only as "that girl from those games": If you like a well made action movie you can not go wrong here. You might wonder who all those people are and what significance they hold, but don't worry! The way the film is made there will most probably be a second or even third movie after this one to explain what has been going on behind the scenes. Personally I can't wait to find out! And yes, I am going to watch this one again on the official release date, this time in the English original, because Alicia has such a nice voice and a convincing British accent. (The German dubbing was quite good, too, actually. But I do prefer original versions, sorry.)<br clear="all" />
