The Unknown Entity is a monster first encountered in a ruin near Paraíso, Peru where it slaughtered most of Lara's colleagues. The creature's past and even name are unknown; it is contained in a stone called the Wraith Stone that is pried from a portal by Amanda Evert. The full extent of its powers include throwing fireballs, teleporting and merging with other being. One who obtains the stone can have complete control of the entity. It is possible that the entity is the Tiwanakan equivalent of Merlin as both have the role of protecting the bearer of excalibar and furthermore killing intruders who enter tiwanakus tomb.

It is affectionately called 'Fluffy' by many fans thanks to the fact that it is Amanda's pet.

Tomb Raider Legend
The entity is first encountered in a Peru flashback, in Tomb Raider Legend and later in Kazakhstan, where it was brought by Amanda by using the Wraith Stone. In Bolivia - The Looking Glass Amanda will merge with the creature to form the Amanda Entity.

From the official site
After the events of Legend, Lara keeps the Wraith Stone in her vault in the Croft Manor, but it is stolen from her by her doppelgänger and given back to Amanda. Amanda later uses it to help Lara fight Thralls in the Arctic Circle level as Lara goes to find her mother.
}}
Thralls are enemies that Lara will encounter in Tomb Raider Underworld.

Thralls are creatures born from the Eitr, the fluid of life. According to Odin's script in Thailand, they were taken to the Underworld to guard Thor's artifacts.

*The term 'thrall' referred to a kind of slave to the Norse. The god Thor traveled in the company of two thralls, Pjálfi's and Röskva, and also with him were two goats, Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr, which pulled his chariot. These goats were special, in that Thor could cook and eat them each night, and restore them the next morning with a single touch as long as he had not damaged their skeletons. Father apparently was thinking of this when he named these animated tiger skeletons. By what means they are kept animate I don't know, but I think I have seen something of what Odin meant by the artifacts of Thor being protected by the dead.

Types
There are three basic kinds of Thrall: the standard human thrall (Viking or Mayan), the yeti thrall and the quadruped thrall (tigers or jaguars).
* Viking Thralls
* Mayan Thralls
* Jaguar Thralls
* Tiger Thralls
* Yeti Thralls

Beneath the Ashes
The new expansion Beneath the Ashes features a slightly different type of Thrall, one which looks a bit like a medieval Crusader, armed with a helmet and a shield. Also in this chapter is found an artifact inscribed with magic words ("okh eshivar") which can control both Thralls and the Doppelgänger, although the connection between the two types of enemy is unclear. Presumably either the Doppelgänger is a type of Thrall or the magic words are very magic. It is unknown whether Amanda knew (during the events of Underworld) if the Thralls could be controlled using the magic words that maybe she was already using to control the Doppelgänger.

Lara's Shadow
In Lara's Shadow, there are armored yeti thralls, which are harder to kill than any normal yeti thrall.
It is also revealed that Natla has become a Thrall and has survived been hit by Mjolnir and falling into the Eitr and has her mind still intact.

Occurrence
* Croft Manor Section
: In Protected by the Dead Lara encounters two Tiger Thralls that her father imported from Thailand and that broke free from their cages.
* Southern Mexico Section
: Lara's next run-in with thralls is in the levels The Midgard Serpent and Land of the Dead, where she meets Jaguar Thralls and Mayan Thralls.
* Jan Mayen Island Section
: In Gate of the Dead and Valhalla Lara encounters Viking Thralls and Yeti Thralls.
* Arctic Sea Section
: The Viking Thralls and Yeti Thralls return in the levels Helheim, Yggdrasil and Out of Time.

Strategy
Thralls can only be killed by damaging their skeleton.

Before Lara gets Mjolnir, the only way to kill Thralls is to shoot them until they fall and then finish them by jumping on their bones to break them or by using a grenade to blow them up.

More Info
In Helheim Lara discovers to her shock that Amelia has become a Thrall, or at least some kind of zombie. Amelia holds out her arms as if to hug Lara, but Lara empties both her pistols into Amelia, sending her back into the void. It is unknown at this point if Lara could have destroyed her mother by jumping on her.
The Yeti Thralls are the biggest sort of enemies in Tomb Raider Underworld. They also belong to the group of Thralls which means that in order to kill them permanently their bones have to be destroyed.

* While it's difficult to identify the corpse of a Yeti after it has lost its hair, that is clearly what these creatures once were. Whether they were capable of equipping themselves with armor in the distant past or were used as beats of burden or a warrior class, they would have been formidable creatures that could be the giants that populated all Norse mythology.

Appearance
These Thralls are massive and bear resemblance to the cave troll in The Lord of the Rings.

Occurrence
The first time Lara meets a yeti thrall is on Jan Mayen Island. She will later meet them again in the Arctic.
* Valhalla
* Helheim
* Yggdrasil
They also appear very frequently in Laras shadow as enemies and some of which are wearing more protective armour and are even more difficult to Kill than regular Yeti Thralls.

Strategy
These trolls are a lot harder to kill than the average thrall. It takes a lot of force to bring them down and it is advisable to use Thor's Hammer to do so. As Lara does not have the hammer yet when meeting the first yeti thrall, the headshot should be used. Again, just like with the other thralls, their bones have the be shattered to kill them permanently.
| Weapons         = tentacles
| Weakness = weak eyesight, can only attack at some spots
}}
The Kraken or "Underpuss" as named by fans, is a special type of enemy appearing in Tomb Raider Underworld. Lara encounters it in the Mediterranean level Niflheim. In this level it serves as a blockaid, having its tentacles wrapping around the door blocking Lara's path towards the inner sanctum where she expects one of Thor's Gauntlets to be.

The creature is trapped in this underworld due to its large size and so is forced to remain here.

Appearance
The Kraken is a massive creature almost too large for its surroundings. It has its tentacles stretched out through the passages of the temple. Lara encounters its first tentacle shortly after passing the round portal into the inner caverns. Others are wrapped around the pillars of the central chamber, the main door and the cogwheel mechanisms. Lara assumes that the creature must be almost blind from the look of its eyes.

Strategy
The creature is invincible using conventional methods. To kill it Lara must activate the various cog mechanisms around the room to release the spiked chandelier-like structure she describes as sun shaped in the Field Assistance above the creature. It is revealed by Lara that the Kraken is blind and can only hurt her when she steps on certain spots around the chamber, in which case it attacks with its tentacles. Otherwise the Kraken is harmless and serves more of a puzzle than a boss in its self.

Mythology
Lara's journal has the following to say on this mythical creature:
* Kraken are monstrously large creatures in mythology. Thought to be based on sightings of giant quid, not to be confused with the sea serpents in Nordic tradition, though both were blamed for the disappearance of ships of all sizes. This beast clearly is a recent addition to this ruin and subsequently grew too large to leave again.

OhkEshivar: /* Tomb Raider Underworld */

Lord Richard James Croft (also known as Henshingley Croft in the earlier games) is Lara's father, and the husband of Lady Amelia Croft.

The original Tomb Raider biography
In the pack insert for the original Tomb Raider game we are told that Lord Henshingley Croft - at that time there was no mention of the name Richard - had his daughter brought up as an aristocrat, sending her to a Swiss finishing school. However after the Tokakeriby plane crash, thanks to her rebellion against the stifling demands of the English aristocracy, her family disowned her. We are led to assume that Lara lives alone on the family estate, the Croft Mansion, attended by old retainer Winston. The whereabouts of her parents is not revealed.

Tomb Raider Chronicles
At the beginning of Tomb Raider Chronicles Lara is missing in Egypt, presumed dead. The FMV shows her memorial statue being visited by a huddled couple in the rain. It was generally supposed by the TR fandom at the time that the couple were Lara's parents, both apparently still alive and visiting their daughter's grave.

Movie Storyline
In the first Tomb Raider movie, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Lara's father - now named Richard Croft and played by Angelina Jolie's real-life father John Voight - was an archaeologist (now deceased) and a former member of the Illuminati. Lara finds an old letter from her father hidden in the Croft Mansion telling her about the society's agenda. Flashbacks establish that Lara and her father were close when she was a child, and imply that her mother is dead.

Tomb Raider Legend
According to the storylines told in Tomb Raider Legend, Anniversary and Underworld Lara's father Richard Croft was an archaeologist, who after his wife's disappearance travelled all over the world investigating archaeological sites and ruins in search for a stone dais, similar to the one where she had disappeared. During this time, he raised and taught Lara alone. However, he disappeared and was declared legally dead, although his remains have never been found. Even Lara unearthed human remains that could not be identified as his. From what Winston says, we are inclined to believe that he had quite a collection of artefacts.

Tomb Raider Anniversary
According to the Tomb Raider Anniversary storyline, Lord Richard Croft was tutored at Eton in anthropology and archaeology. With the considerable wealth of the Croft family behind him, Richard spent his younger years mounting innumerable expeditions to historical sites world wide in an effort to support his unconventional hypothesis of a base culture that pre-dated known history. Richard and his wife, Lady Amelia DeMornay, had Lara only a year after marrying. Nine years later, after Amelia disappeared in a plane crash, Richard sank further and further into obsession, consumed with discovering what had become of her. A few years later, he himself died while on a dig in Cambodia. Citation needed

Tomb Raider Underworld
In Tomb Raider Underworld, it is revealed that Richard found one of Thor's gauntlets and hid it in his manor in England. He also worked for Natla, but then discovered her true plans. As a clue he leaves behind a note signed as "RJC" - Richard James Croft -, which according to Lara he never did before, which points her to his father, her grandfather, Richard James Croft Senior's tomb under Croft Manor. Later in the game, Natla claims to have killed Richard Croft in Thailand. Later in Beneath the ashes it is revealed that Richard found the Thrall stone in Thailnd which he stored in the deepest dungeons of the chapel under croft manor. Richard claims in the descriptive document Lara reads that he was able to control Thralls using the "Ohk Eshivar" spell.
Lady Amelia Croft, the Countess of Abbingdon, was the wife of Lord Henshingly Croft, and the mother of Lara Croft.

Until Tomb Raider Legend, Amelia was presumed deceased but was in fact the victim of a tragic incident involving her daughter and a sword similar to Excalibur, where she appeared to have been imprisoned in Avalon.

In Tomb Raider Underworld, Natla performs the ritual to open the doors, and Lara completes it by striking the doors with Mjolnir. Opening the doors to Helheim, Lara finds her mother who stands at the edge of the cliff, looking into a blue, ghostly void. Lara calls out to her only to see that when Amelia turns around, she's a Thrall. Part of Amelia still exists, but half of her is a zombie creature. Lara is filled with fear and disbelief as Amelia starts walking toward her. She says that her mother is dead and that she died a long time ago, that the Thrall she sees is not her mother. As Amelia gets closer, Lara shoots her several times, sending her backward into the void.

Later, after stopping Natla and destroying the Midgard Serpent, Lara and Amanda get back to Nepal by using the stone dais in Helheim that Amelia tried to use but didn't know how. Upon arrival, Lara picks up her drawings of yeti that she ripped out of her notebook (as seen in Legend) and bids one last farewell to her mother before departing.

If you look closely throughout Tomb raider Underworld you can see several references to Amelia for example the portrait of her in croft manor has had half of her face charred off and the image of the goddess Hel that appears on the seals of Helheim during Odins Ritual, representing Amelias half destroyed thrall state when Lara meets her.

Jacqueline Natla is a character from the original Tomb Raider (and its remake Tomb Raider Anniversary), making her return in Tomb Raider Underworld.<br><br>

Jacqueline Natla's background
Natla was one of the three legendary Rulers of Atlantis, along with Tihocan and Qualopec. Together they created the Scion, a device of immeasurable power. This device was split into three parts, one for each of the rulers, representing the ruling structure that Atlantis was governed by.

Natla abused this power, however, using the Scion to experiment in genetic engineering and create a new, improved race of Atlanteans. When they learned of this, Tihocan and Qualopec sentenced Natla to eternal imprisonment, freezing her and then burying her in present day New Mexico.

During World War II, the U.S. began testing nuclear weapons in Los Alamos, New Mexico. One of these tests happened to detonate very near to Natla's prison, freeing her from her eternal punishment.

Natla adopted the guise of Jacqueline Natla and founded Natla Technologies, a very successful company which gave her considerable financial backing. With the rest of her people long dead, there was no one to stand in the way of her experiments, and she began to research the whereabouts of the Scion.

Natla's powers, at least in Continuity 2 (Crystal Dynamics, TRA), seem to include superstrength, supernatural firepower, the ability to fly and the ability to teleport. She can also apparently shapeshift and is able to change from human to Atlantean form.

In the original game (TR1, Continuity 1) it is suggested that her wings are a mutant that she wears on her shoulders, and that her ability to shoot fireballs is due to a mutant attached or grafted to her forearm. There is no hint in TR1 that she has the ability to shapeshift or teleport, or that she has superstrength or is immortal. It is arguable that the conversion of Natla from human to superhuman in the style of a DC or Marvel Comics or Disney villianness, demonstrates the move from a British (Core Design) to an American (Crystal Dynamics) aesthetic.

Tomb Raider & Tomb Raider Anniversary
In the Tomb Raider / Anniversary storyline she hired Lara Croft to travel to Peru to uncover Qualopec's third of an artefact called the Scion, but underestimated both Lara's ability and her moral solidarity. When Larson, one of Natla's employees, revealed to Lara that there was more going on than she originally thought, Lara took up the trail of the Scion, unwilling to blindly hand over such a powerful artefact.

Lara travelled from Peru to Greece, and then to an ancient city in Egypt collecting the three pieces of the Scion before Natla could. However, Natla caught up with Lara on a cliff side in Egypt and stole the completed Scion from her. Natla travelled to the great pyramid, an ancient Atlantean construction, to finally complete her experimentation.

Lara infiltrates the great pyramid and finds the control room at the top of an enormous chasm. With Natla's experiments almost complete, Lara shoots the Scion to prevent the ability to create Natla's hideous monsters. Natla jumps on Lara, in an attempt to prevent her from shooting the Scion, but apparently falling to her death far below.

However, Natla is not defeated, she reappears in a final showdown with Lara, this time revealing her true Atlantean heritage. She sports red wings and blasts fire balls at Lara. When she is sufficiently injured she plays dead, lulling Lara into a false sense of security, but will then keep fighting until she is finally killed.

She is an unlockable character in Tomb Raider Anniversary.

* Jacqueline Natla is the owner and CEO of Natla Technologies, one of the world's largest electronics companies. She is the holder of several key computer hardware patents, and her research and development is one of the industry's most secretive and prolific innovators. Little is known about Miss Natla's private life other than she never gives interviews and rarely makes public appearances. Colleagues and business rivals alike say she is intimidatingly intelligent and a demanding perfectionist.
Tomb Raider Underworld
Jacqueline Natla returns in Tomb Raider Underworld, held prisoner in a glass tube on a freighter ship by Amanda Evert. Early in the game she tells Lara about Helheim and Avalon being one and the same and informs Lara that she needs Thor's relics to gain access. After visiting Jan Mayen Island to retrieve Thor's Hammer, Lara sets off to the Andaman Sea on the coast of Thailand to find Amanda's ship again. Lara confronts and threatens to kill Natla, but is stopped when Natla explains that a ritual is also needed to open the gates of Helheim; a ritual that only Natla knows. Realising she has no choice if she wants to enter Helheim and find her mother, Lara then smashes the capsule open, allowing Natla to escape. After arriving at Avalon, Natla reveals that she was manipulating Lara to reach an ancient device called the Midgard Serpent to bring about the Seventh Age. She also claims that she killed Lara's father in Thailand after he betrayed her. Lara manages to destroy the Midgard Serpent, and then knocks Natla into the Eitr surrounding the device by throwing Thor's Hammer at her.

Appearance
In Tomb Raider Underworld Jacqueline Natla is considerably taller and prettier than in Tomb Raider Anniversary, which was made by a different design team.

The following text can be found in Lara's journal:
* Natla was the Immortal Queen of Atlantis, and more recently CEO of Natla Technologies. Somehow she lost her connection with the powerful artifacts of her reign millenia ago, and recently began devoting her knowledge and intellect toward recovering it all from ancient sites around the world. Her aim is to initiate what she calls The Seventh Age, of which I know nothing other than that it would be a very bad turn for humanity. I buried her on a remote island, but apparently Amanda has dug her out and is keeping her prisoner as her own personal Encyclopaedia Atlantica. I hope Amanda understands that she's sitting on a time bomb, and that everything Natla tells her is filtered by her own agenda.

Beneath the Ashes & Lara's Shadow
Beneath the Ashes Story

Natla is not a character in Beneath the Ashes; however, it is suggested that she is still alive. In the final scene of Beneath the Ashes, Lara has learned to control both the Thralls and the Doppelgänger. After Lara establishes that the Doppelgänger has to obey her, the camera shifts and it is not possible to hear what mission or instructions Lara gives the Doppelgänger. However when the camera returns Lara is saying "Make sure Natla suffers". As the Doppelgänger leaves the room Zip says "You're letting her go? She killed Alister!", and Lara replies "And now, she is an instrument of his vengeance".

In the second cutscene of Lara's Shadow, the Doppelgänger comes across Natla in Helheim; Natla has suffered severe injuries, presumably from Thor's Hammer and from immersion in the Eitr. Using the words "Ohk Ehsivar" Natla orders the Doppelgänger to help her back to the pod device that the Doppelganger was created in. Natla then instructs her to reactivate the pod and waits slumped inside, presumably waiting for some regeneration process to begin. She gives the Doppelgänger some final orders, namely to kill Lara and then to commit suicide, the latter appearing to disconcert the Doppelgänger somewhat. Four days later beneath the Croft Manor (see Beneath the Ashes) Lara somehow frees the Doppelgänger from the control of the magic words Okh Eshivar and suggests that the newly independent Doppelgänger should "make Natla suffer". The Doppelgänger returns to Helheim and turns Natla's pod device off. Natla falls to the ground, gets crushed underneath some rocks and finally is left lying in a pool of Eitr. When the Doppelgänger approaches, Natla again orders her to help. However the Doppelgänger thinks back to what Lara has told her - "You are no longer a slave" (we see a flashback) - and does not obey. Natla realizes she is in trouble and calls for the Thralls to save her, but they don't show up. Natla screams and presumably dies. We see a close-up of the Doppelgänger's face: she smiles.

Voices
* Grey DeLisle (Tomb Raider Anniversary, Tomb Raider Underworld)
* Thought to be either Vicky Arnold or Susie Hamilton in Tomb Raider [reference to be added].

Miscellaneous facts
* A "scorched Natla" outfit is unlockable in Anniversary.
* Natla has featured in a number of Tomb Raider fan fiction stories, including "GM" and "The Dead" by Ostercy and "An Eye For An Eye" by Dr. Amazing, the latter being the winning entry in a Natla story writing competition, The Second Village of Tokakeriby TR Story Competition, 2002
* The Aramaic word "natla" (נטלא) means "the vessel used for washing hands". Another possible etymology of "natla" says it derives from "נטל " and should be viewed literally as "that which is lifted" or "that which is taken". (S. Fränkel, "Aramäische Fremdwörter im Arabischen," p. 65, and On Semitic Words in Greek and Latin W. Muss-Arnolt Transactions of the American Philological Association Vol. 23, (1892), pp. 35-156)
* There are some similarities between Natla and Ayesha, immortal anti-heroine of Rider Haggard's novel She . To quote Wikipedia; In the original novel, Ayesha is to a great extent selfish and amoral, caring very little for the feelings or even the lives of others so long as she gets what she wants. However, it is evident that, in the course of writing the novel, Haggard moved away from a purer conception of feminine evil. Indeed, one sees the process of transition fossilized in this sentence from the chapter entitled “Ayesha Unveils” - "I have heard of the beauty of celestial beings, now I saw it; only this beauty, with all its awful loveliness and purity, was evil — at least, at the time, it struck me as evil."
* Jacqueline Natla of Natla Technologies seems to be an early example of a character type popular in recent science fiction, a sinister female CEO of a sinister research multinational. Other examples include Catherine Weaver, the co-founder and current CEO of ZeiraCorp in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Nina Sharp, the shady co-owner of Massive Dynamic, a science and technology research organisation, in Fringe .
* Even if not intended, there are similarities between the Anniversary version of Natla and the Egyptian god Seth from the game The Last Revelation. Both of them have wings (which both of them are able to hide, as shown when Natla is wearing a business suit and when Seth is imprisoned), are able to cast fireballs, are immortal and have power over the dead.
* Natla is the first character to appear in a Tomb Raider game.
* If Natla is indeed a thrall then her supposed death at the end of Laras shadow should prove nothing more than annoyance as Thralls are seen to bathe in the Eitr throughout Tomb Raider Underworld.
