Kurtis Trent is a new character in Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness (TR6). He crops up several times throughout the game, following Lara like a shadow.

Biography
Kurtis was born on June 26 1972 in Utah Salt Flats, USA.

He is an ex-Legionnaire and also an experienced warrior with limited occult abilities. From the age of three, he was trained as an initiate in an ancient order called the Lux Veritatis by his father, Konstantin. At the age of 19, however, he disappeared to join the Foreign Legion, and changed his surname to Trent. Here, he adopted the nickname 'Demon Hunter' after being constantly assaulted by bizarre events linked to the occult.

He left the Foreign Legion in 1996, and began freelancing with a variety of mercenary and semi-legal agencies under the direction of Marten Gunderson.

In 2001, just before the events of Angel of Darkness, his father is murdered by Eckhardt. It is here that Kurtis takes on his father's role as the last surviving member of the Order. He is now on a quest for revenge against those that wiped out the Order and killed his father.
In the game
Lara's first contact with Kurtis in the game is in the Cafe Metro, where he is sitting at a table in a corner. He doesn't speak to her. Their next encounter is in front of the Serpent Rouge, where he flees on his bike. Lara doesn't see him again until after the explosion in the Pawn Shop. He is sitting on a jetty, smoking a cigarette. Again, she isn't able to talk to him. She meets him again in the Louvre, where, in a very tense scene, he disarms Lara and steals her Obscura Painting.

After chasing Kurtis out of the Lovure, Lara is knocked unconscious by a guard. She wakes up to find Kurtis gone and a crystal shard on the ground beside her, which she pockets. Her next meeting with Kurtis takes place in the Strahov in Prague. He tells Lara that she has made a mess and that he has to correct her mistake by turning the power back on, although not before Lara taunts him with the crystal shard.

The player then takes control of Kurtis in two levels (The Sanitarium and Maximum Containment Area). After this, Kurtis and Lara decide to team up in an attempt to stop Eckhardt. Coming from the Vault of Trophies, Lara finds that Eckhardt has captured Kurtis. She gives Eckhardt the last Obscura Painting in exchange for Kurtis' life, and then the pair are left to the mercy of the mutant creature Boaz.

Using his psychic boost, Kurtis helps Lara to safety and faces Boaz alone. After a gruesome fight, Kurtis defeats his opponent, but is mortally wounded after being stabbed through the stomach.

In the final cutscene, Lara discovers Kurtis' Chirugai lying in a suspiciously large pool of blood. She picks it up, and it directs her towards a nearby doorway, perhaps indicating that Kurtis is still alive and able to wield it.

Fate
There has been much speculation about the apparent 'death' of Kurtis. According to an official interview with Adrian Smith, a part had already been written for his character in the planned second and third games of the Angel of Darkness trilogy. A cliffhanger was introduced regarding Kurtis' ultimate fate at the end of the first game as an insurance policy, depending on fan reaction towards his character.

Theories about his fate are varied. However, as Eidos initially planned to continue the Angel of Darkness story into two more games, it is a safe bet that he survived.

Fanfiction
Although receiving generally poor reviews from the gaming media, Angel of Darkness has inspired quite a number of fanfiction continuations and spinoffs, many focused around or including the character of Kurtis Trent.

Lara Croft has a partner in crime who joins the British aristocrat in her latest adventure The Angel Of Darkness. His name is Kurtis Trent, and he will become Core Design's debut for a second playable character in a Tomb Raider adventure. The last remaining adept of an ancient and mystical order called the Lux Veritatis, Kurtis Trent will marry muscle and brawn with Lara's buoyant twin-pistolled approach to dispensing anything or anyone that stands in their way. Kurtis Trent will also carry his own trademark weapon - The Glaive, a razor sharp frisbee that can be thrown at enemies or maneuvered in flight by telekinetic powers. If this dual-character inclusion proves successful, Core Design will entertain the idea of releasing a spin-off videogame series starring Trent.

Kurtis Trent, Ex Legionnaire and adventurer, was born on June 26 1972 in Utah Salt Flats, USA. When he was only three years old, Kurtis was trained by his father Konstantin as a Lux Veritatis initiate, an ancient order now being ruthlessly hunted down by Eckhardt and the Cabal. At sixteen, Kurtis underwent his most intense stage of his Lux Veritatis initiation. Upon reaching nineteen, he disappeared and joined the Foreign Legion, changing his name to Trent. He stayed hidden within the Legion for five years but was constantly assaulted by bizarre events linked to the occult. It is here he adopts the nickname "Demon Hunter."

In 1996, Kurtis left the Foreign Legion and began freelancing with a variety of mercenary and semi-legal agencies under the direction of Marten Gunderson. He collects word from his father, but never sees him alive again. In 2001, Konstantin is murdered by Eckhardt. Spurred on by his death, Kurtis receives two talismanic items, the Periapt Shards and the terrifying Chirugai blade - a discus-like glaive made by the Ferilium. He then embarks on a mission to overthrow Eckhardt. Kurtis Trent crosses paths with Lara Croft, British archeologist and world renowned adventurer, and they join forces in Prague to combat the Cabal and Eckhardt.

The History Of Kurtis Trent: Demon Hunter is the first in a series of documents focusing on the characters from Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel Of Darkness.

In the game
Lara's first contact with Kurtis in the game will be in the Cafe Metro, where he is sitting at a table in a corner. He won't speak to her. Their next encounter will be in front of the Serpent Rouge, he is fleeing with his bike. Then Lara will see him again after the explosion in the Pawn Shop. He is sitting on a jetty, smoking a cigarette. Again, she won't be able to talk to him. Then she will meet him in the Louvre where he steals Lara's weapons and then both flee. Lara is knocked unconscious by Bouchard's guard and Kurtis disappears. The next meeting with Kurtis will be in the Strahov in Prague. He will complain that Lara has made a mess and that he has to correct her mistake by turning the power back on.

The player will then be playing Kurtis in two levels (The Sanitarium and Maximum Containment Area) After that Lara and he go seperate ways in an attempt to stop Eckhardt. Coming from the Vault of Trophies you will find that Eckhardt has captured Kurtis. You will both be thrown into a pit with a spider creature. Kurtis helps Lara to flee and then you have to fight against the mutant creature Boaz as Kurtis in Boaz Returns. Kurtis is then stabbed by the Boaz creature, and left to die. However, in the final cutscene, Lara only discovers his Chirugai blade on the floor, and a suspiciously big pool of blood, which can be guessed being blood of Boaz or Kurtis'.
